Introduction:
¡Hola, estudiantes y padres! Hello, students and parents! My name is Brandon Sikkenga (Señor Sikkenga) and I am teaching 7th Grade Spanish, Spanish I (8th Grade), and 7th Grade U.S. History this school year. The 2017-2018 school year will mark my second year teaching, this being my first at SKY Academy Englewood.
A Bit About Myself:
I grew up in Michigan (Grand Rapids area) and attended Western Michigan University where I received my B.A. in Secondary Education Spanish, Geography, & History. While attending WMU, I had the opportunity to live in Santander, Spain for two months while I studied at the Universidad de Cantabria. My time in Spain allowed met to truly immerse myself in the Spanish language and culture 24-7, which I whole-heartedly believe helps me push students to becoming globally engaged citizens. Hoping to escape the cold and the snow of Michigan winters, I moved to Sarasota in June of 2016 to teach Social Studies & Spanish for the 2016-2017 school year.
When I am not in the classroom, I enjoy traveling, cooking, playing tennis, kayaking, and spending time with my friends and family. I also enjoy reading, with my favorite genres being historical fiction and non-fiction.
